Event Review | The Shaped Body: How Do I Become Me? A Theater & Script-Reading Workshop
On September 11, SIXI Museum, alongside Sun Chi and playwright Qin Xu, hosted a workshop exploring the interaction between the body and its environment. Transforming the museum into an interactive space, the event broke traditional spectator-performer dynamics to examine social rules and personal boundaries.
The workshop began with physical warm-ups. Guided only by a partner’s single touch, participants navigated the gallery with closed eyes, sensing how mental shifts between rainforest and factory settings influenced their bodies. Through mirror exercises and tiered emotional studies, attendees physically realized how external expectations and the gaze of others shape their posture and behavior.
During the reading of Prometheus · ONE, participants moved through themed galleries, grounding the text in real-time bodily awareness. Spontaneous interaction built trust, allowing everyone to let down their guard. In the discussion, participants reflected on regaining sensory acuity and balancing rules with personal boundaries. The facilitators noted that theater’s essence lies in pure playfulness—a joy shared by all that evening.
By prioritizing immediate sensory experience over dramatic delivery, the workshop layered textual interpretation onto spatial awareness. It echoed Second Skin: From the Somatic to the Interstellar, guiding participants to rediscover self-certainty through the expression and liberation of their physical bodies.
