Event Review: Between Air, Heat and Electricity: An experimental sound performance and workshop with Anne-F Jacques.

On the evening of August 28, SIXI Museum, in collaboration with Solaris, invited sound artist Anne-F Jacques to the exhibition space of Second Skin: From Flesh to Interstellar for an experimental sound experience. Embracing the perspective of a “tinkerer,” the artist guided the audience to use everyday objects, discovering overlooked micro-sounds through friction and vibration, thereby contemplating the connections between sound fields, space, and the self.

The event opened with Anne’s performance. Subtle yet distinct sounds filled the space, encouraging the audience to close their eyes, listen attentively, and seek familiar signals in the abstract soundscape. This performance sparked reflection and questions among attendees regarding sound arrangement, material preferences, and the meaning of “noise.” Rather than providing direct answers, Anne encouraged participants to carry these questions into the workshop to discover their own answers.

During the subsequent group workshop, the audience shifted from listeners to creators. One participant shared “When closing my eyes, I felt completely disoriented, which taught me to set aside rational interpretations of sound mechanics and return to a state of pure listening.” Attendees also keenly observed that while the artist‘s performance conveyed stillness, stability, and a Zen-like quality, the collective sounds generated by the audience were grounded in the present moment, filled with the vibrant noise of everyday life.

This event transformed the exhibition into an experimental space for perception and matter. By introducing sound as a medium, it dissolved the boundaries between the body, objects, and space, echoing the theme of Second Skin: From Flesh to Interstellar. SIXI Museum aims to guide audiences toward a heightened self-awareness through active engagement and listening, establishing new connections with the world within an invisible network of sound.
