Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1996, Ng Win Yi is currently based in Lyon, France. She earned a BFA from the Department of Fine Arts National Taiwan Normal University in 2019 and an MFA from the National School of Fine Arts in Lyon in 2024. Her practice encompasses writing, drawing, sculpture, and video.
Her personal memories drive her to explore family history and the complexities of national identity, particularly in the context of colonisation and immigration as a Malaysian-Chinese. Her multilingual and multicultural upbringing is reflected in her work through the layering of elements from different cultures. This life context drives her to explore the question of language, which consequently becomes central to her artistic practice.
