Linington payed particular attention to the indigeneity of Nanjing city, where the Sixi
Residency Project is located.
He drew inspiration from the natural colours of his studio’s surroundings and the strong textures of the ancient city walls. “I have always been impressed by my early exposure to tourist souvenirs made from readily available local materials.” he said, “Since then, for me, material and site have been inextricably connected.’ The lens captured footages of Simon Linington’s life during his residency in Nanjing, as he got close to this uncharted territory in his own way. Exploring nature, meeting local people, when delving into Linington’s everyday experiences, one can well understand the site-specific method of his artistic practice, as well as the daily clues that influenced his
creative approach.
There are few moments more comforting and fulfilling than slowing down the pace and exploring an unfamiliar and wonderful new world.
