The Light Burns the Reality | Curator's talk with Qian Qian

Curator in Conversation with Artist | Qian Qian

Redefining Watercolor on Paper

How would two seemingly independent artistic souls engage in a dialogue that transcends time and space? And why is watercolor on paper—once an underrated medium—able to bloom with a splendor comparable to oil painting in the hands of post-90s artist Qian Qian?

In this episode, our curator ZHENG SHU will reveal the origin of the dual exhibition The Light Burns the Reality and offer an in-depth analysis of Qian Qian’s Fallen Angels series. On the paintings, the "fallen angels" shed their cloaks of evil and desire, baring their inner selves that have glimpsed the truth through awakening. Infused with Qian Qian’s own spiritual essence, they complete the transformation from sanctity to freedom.
