Event Review
On May 26th, Sixi Museum and Ouch Theatre jointly organized a community theatre workshop with the topic “A Pushed Life”, in which the actors and audience shared and performed their personal experiences of “being pushed” or “push others.”
In “Playback Theatre” and “Mini Forum Theatre”, the actors recreated scenes and interpreted plays in conjunction with the audience’s stories. Being pushed to get a degree, to get married, or to birth a child... The ear-piercing alarm bells seem to take away our control over life and impose too many obligations on individuals without any explanation. Is life really such a race where everyone tries to catch up with each other and no pause is allowed?
In the discussion session, the participants shared thoughts and strategies inspired by the performances: goals in life won’t be achieved in one day. One should reject meaningless urges and anxieties, allow himself/herself to be different from others, step out of his/her own rhythm, live out his/her own excitement, and leisurely figure out his/her own life!
As with the aim of other public education events at Sixi Museum, we hope to engage the audience in a dialogue through multiple media and perspectives, provoking discussion and reflection on self-fulfillment, the meaning of life, and societal values.
