Event Review | Ubox Gallery x Zayn Qhatani - Children's Installation Workshop

On November 15th, Ubox Gallery partnered with Zayn Qahtani, an artist-in-residence of SIXI AiR program to lead children on an unforgettable art exploration and installation creation journey at Sixi Museum.

Started with a simple creative tour, Qahtani then shared the stories behind her material choices and guiding the children to feel emotions conveyed by colors and shapes. Black restraint and depth, while yellow for brightness and joy, straight lines for tranquility, yet curves for passion. Curious and engaged, the young participants resonated with the happiness or sorrow in her works through shared emotions.

Teachers from Ubox Gallery encouraged those kids to draw inspiration from Qahtani’s pieces, centering on "joy" as the theme. Transformed into little artists, the children adopted Qahtani’s creative approach—drawing on personal experiences to craft their own happy worlds, blending shapes and colors to depict symbols of joy.

Guided by Qahtani and the teachers, the children followed their instincts, turning inner joy into vivid expressions with diverse colors and shapes, such as Rainbows, blue skies, palms, hearts, flowers and smiling faces. These works were spliced and assembled with lighting tools, resembled just like traditional Chinese shadow puppetry. Each of unique luminous installations revealed a three-dimensional, dynamic beauty when illuminated.

Through sort of artistic experience, Sixi Museum wish the children could forge an intuitive link between art and emotion, simultaneously, perceive their true feelings through color, and find inner healing.
