Film Screening Der Himmel über Berlin + Post-Screening Dialogue
Sixi Museum × Goethe-Institut China
Event Review
On 15 December, Sixi Museum and the German Cultural Centre Beijing - Goethe-Institut (China) held a screening of the film Der Himmel über Berlin - a classic masterpiece of the New German Cinema, and the post-screening dialogue between the scholars Shen Xiaoping and Wang Qiang helped the audience to better comprehend the film’s temporal background, its underlying meanings, and the impact of its storytelling.
The story in this 1987 film seems to have happened yesterday, it has broken the limitations of time and space to present the essence of the world, which is exactly the responsibility of an artist and what master director Wenders pursues. He turns his attention to every ordinary life, and tells the story of the world from each vivid individual angle.
As the exhibition Lights Out at Sixi Museum expresses, everyone’s existence is unique and important, and every emotion is fascinating, regardless of whether it is positive or not.
