Event Review
On June 29th, Sixi Museum hosted an Open Studio event in its residency space. The first artist-in-residence of the newly launched Residency Project - Simon Linington, an artist from the UK, displayed his documented experience and unique sources of artistic creation during his stay in Nanjing, China, where he has been collecting materials and exploring the scenery of the local mountains, rivers and forests. For the artist, as his first trip to Asia, Nanjing is very different from his previous life and work environment, providing unprecedented nourishment for his life experience and artistic thinking.
In photographs, the artist presented his geographical impressions of the city. Raw materials, sketches and daily drafts of his installation works were also shown to the audience in the studio. In a pleasant atmosphere of relaxing music and wine, the artist and the visitors had a free-flowing dialogue and enjoyed a lovely weekend afternoon together.
Through the open studio, it is aimed to strengthen the interaction and communication between the artist-in-residence and the local. The Sixi International Artist-in-Residence Project hopes to make its contribution to the international cultural exchanges in Nanjing and the diversified development of the art ecology in contemporary China.
