Eva Yi Zhang is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work is deeply intertwined with her surroundings. With a Master’s in Economics and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics, her academic background brings a unique perspective to her art. Textiles and sewing are Zhang's key mediums, with these she manipulates different fabrics through varied techniques like tie-dye and collage. Zhang attempts to capture the everyday reality of women in contemporary life. Working sensitively with textiles, she establishes a multi-sensory connection between the visual and the tactile, constantly reflecting on, exploring and pushing forward the historical narratives and contemporary status of women’s roles in society. In the visual narratives here, the figure being groomed and the figure fighting a bear can both be external reflections of the true spirit of women.
