Qian Qian, born in 1990 in Jiangxi, China, received her MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2018, and is now a multidisciplinary artist, poet, and mother based in London, UK. Since childhood, Qian has been captivated by metaphysical questions about the divine and the earthly: What is the universe? Where does time come from? What is humanity’s position in the cosmos, and how does it relate to mysticism? These inquiries continue to inform and shape her artistic practice. Qian’s work merges rationality with imaginative vision. She weaves together intricate cellular structures, contemporary theories in physics, vast galactic systems, Western alchemical symbolism, and Eastern religious texts to create paintings that are grounded in reality yet imbued with transcendental qualities. Her visual universe draws science and myth into a mutually enriching relationship, guiding viewers step by step into a world of illusion—toward the edges of self-awareness. In doing so, her work explores life energy and cultural hybridity, prompting a reexamination of our relationship with the world we inhabit.
Since 2023, Qian has held solo exhibitions at institutions such as Lychee One and Richard Saltoun Gallery, and has participated in numerous significant contemporary art exhibitions worldwide, including at Westminster Reference Library, Leyden Gallery, West Norwood Project Space, Zabludowicz Collection, and X Museum. Her work is included in prominent collections such as those of Michael Weissman, Marcelle Joseph, and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Art Collection.
